A gas line explosion created a massive fire in San Francisco on Wednesday as firefighters battled the afternoon blaze, reports said.
The three-alarm inferno was sparked when a construction crew was digging in front of a Chinese restaurant and struck the gas line at around 1 p.m. local time, according to NBC Bay Area.
Video footage from the area showed towering flames as the firefighters worked to douse the fire.
“I saw people running across the street so I ran out,” an employee at the nearby Verizon store told KPIX 5.
“We saw flames everywhere. Construction workers saying get back. They said someone is probably dead. I’m just hoping everything is OK.”
Five people were unaccounted for as of Wednesday afternoon. It was not clear if there were any injuries.
