“Ghostbusters” is coming back to the big screen in the summer of 2020, with a new version directed by Jason Reitman.
Yes, Reitman is the filmmaker son of Ivan Reitman, who directed and produced the original 1984 comedic hit “Ghostbusters” with Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis.
“Finally got the keys to the car. #GB20,” Jason Reitman wrote on Twitter Tuesday.
Sony Entertainment Studios says the new film will go into production this summer, but shared no other details about cast or the new story. There is no formal indication of the million-dollar question: What role the living original cast members, Murray and Aykroyd (Ramis died in 2014), will have in the new movie, if any.
In an interview with EW.com, Reitman said he would divert from director Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot of “Ghostbusters” that featured an all-women cast that included Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones. Reitman will go back to the original universe his father created in the present day story.
